Hi Helienne,
We saw your excellent piece on gender gap that went up on Friday and have been trying to get in touch since. We’ve got a panel discussion on the gender gap in music called Women Make Music hosted by Miranda Sawyer with Speech Debelle, Kate Nash, Mira Calix, Janis Susskind and Rachel Portman as part of our mini season at Kings Place (24-29 May). Please email or call our office 02077049435 if you would like to come.
Best,
Rob
Hi Rob,
I’m glad you liked the blog. I’m actually planning on doing a separate blog about the gender gap on the creative side of the music industry. It was depressing to find out that only 14% of PRS members are female. I wonder what the figures are for other areas on the creative side (musicians, producers etc).
I’m planning on going to your event at King’s Place on the 24th of May. PRS contacted me about this event the other week.
Many thanks,
Helienne
Hi Helienne
I’m a songwriter, previously in bands signed to major labels, looking to place some material. Wondered if you could have a listen to some songs, one of which was produced by Tony Visconti, maybe offer some guidance?
thanks

Thanks Lucy! Your words warms my heart. Best of luck with your endeavors as well!
Dear Helienne
I’m researching a new play and have a question about song rights which I’m wondering if you could answer, given your expertise & experience.
Do you know of any instances where a songwriter has given the rights to a song to a third party as a gift? I’m not thinking in terms of “Change a word, get a third”, rather something along the lines of a girlfriend/wife being given the rights to a song she inspired, but had no input into other than being the muse.
(I had thought this was the case with The Bluebells’ ‘Young at Heart’, but apparently different versions exist and Siobhan Fahey was an original co-writer, not gifted the rights as later reported https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_at_Heart_(Bananarama_song) )
Many thanks for any help,
Emma x
